YAY Stardust

reclining
So last night I finally got a chance to see Stardust! I was a little nervous before seeing it because I'm not a huge fan of Claire Danes (she tends to really bug me - I think its the whole chin wibble thing she does) but I loved it!

So favorite things:

Charlie Cox! My newest crush! He is absolutely adorable and a terrific actor as well. I can't wait to see more of him in the future.

Robert DeNiro Loved the gay pirate thing. He was hilarious and looked like he was having so much fun with the part as well.

Michelle Pfeiffer Can I say, first of all, that I hope I look as good as she does when I'm in my fifties? She is a fabulous villain, just completely chews the scenery.

Rick Gervais So funny! As a fan of the Office I have a special place in my heart for Rick.

In general I loved the entire movie, the plot, the acting (I could even stand Claire Danes), the humor - it was perfect. Usually I find that the summer is a perfect wasteland for movies, but I have really enjoyed the ones I've seen: The Waitress (RIP Adrian Shelly), Harry Potter, Bourne Ultimatum, Simpsons. The only movie that really disappointed was Shrek 3. It had none of the fun of the other two. I also have to say that I wasn't terribly fond of Becoming Jane. The acting was good, the cinematography was excellent, but the story felt forced.

Anyway, now I'm looking forward to my fall and winter movies, here is my list so far:

Elizabeth: The Golden Age Cate Blanchette is one of my favorite actresses. Her, Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, and Judi Dench top my list as just the most amazing women in film today. I will go see anything they are in.

Atonement James McAvoy YAY! He was fabulous in The Last King of Scotland and I wanted to see Starter for 10 but it was in and out of the theater near me before I had a chance.

No Country for Old Men I'm a huge fan of the Coen Brothers. I loved Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou, and Intolerable Crulety. I'm really excited to see this

The Golden Compass The previews for this look amazing and I've heard so many good things about the series. Of course before I see this I have to read the book, so I've got that on my reading list.

Darjeeling Limited Ok, so I'm catching up with my Wes Anderson. I've only seen Rushmore so far, but I've got Life Aquatic and Royal Tennenbaums on my Netflix list. I loved Rushmore, but the real reason I'm looking forward to this is Adrian Brody. I was astounded by him in The Pianist and I really enjoyed his performance in King Kong. I know he's not typically attractive but there is something about him that just makes me melt.

If any of you have some suggestions of things I should look out for, please drop it in the comments.

Long Time Gone!

John Stewart
So wow, long time gone. I just looked at my livejouranl and realized I haven't posted for 10 whole months! Geebus! So I suppose RL got in the way of everything.

So to catch up.

Yes, I did get an internship on the Hill last fall (yay!) It was a great experience and really confirmed how much I want to be a DCite, so I looked and looked and finnally two months after my intership got a job. Won't say where, cause you never know whose reading these things. Suffice it to say its in a totally cool office (not on the Hill but hey you can't have everything). The people I work with are fun and brilliant and I'm learning so much being there.

I've sort of drifted out of HP fandom though I still lurk on Fictionalley from time to time. Don't get me wrong I'm still breathlessly awaiting Book 7 (though I will cry bitter tears when I finnish it). I've just gotten tired of rehashing old debates about who Harry really loves (for crying out loud folks- JKR settled that in HBP) and whether or not Ginny gave Harry a love potion.

I cried bitter tears of course when my beloved West Wing went off the air. I think I scared my friends when I let out a huge squeeeee watching "Election Part 1" and Donna and Josh finally got it on. It was a similar sound to the one I made when Harry and Ginny kissed. I'm really looking forward to Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip this fall. I'm glad NBC had the good sense not to place it opposite Grey's Anatomy (my latest obsession-can you say HELLOOOO Dr. McDreamy!).

Well tis all for now. I'm tired and need to chill out!

Okay, at this moment I am at major Freak Out point. On Friday I applied for an internship on the Hill (as in Capitol Hill. Today around 2:45, I got a call from the Intern Coordinator of the office, asking me if I was available for a phone interview at 3:45 (just an hour from then). I was so excited, I said sure, I'm available.

An hour later after I had absorbed as much of the congressperson's website to get an idea of their pet policy issues- the Intern Coordinator called for the interview. I completely flubbed it. I babbled, I was incoherent. GAH! I'm sooooo not getting this internship :-(

I want to go hide in a very deep dark hole.

You are Pooh Bear.
Indulgence is not a bad word as far as you're
concerned, your confidence in being yourself is
what matters more than all that.
The most loyal of friends and always good fun to be
around, everyone needs someone like you in
their life.

Which Pooh character are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Hey I'm Winnie the Pooh! Who woulda' thunk it?

Seeing this I'm reminded of a book I read, The Tao of Pooh, it's a good book, everyone should read it!

I spent yesterday at the Rennaisance Faire and as such am very tired right now and a bit sunburt- ouch!

Lunck Break and Journal Update

John Stewart
Hey all! I'm taking a lunck break from the great job hunt (grrrrr!)to make a happy little HP fandom post as I have just seen the lastest incarnation of the great "Love Potion of Death" theory on FA as created by Creamtea.

Now, I can understand being upset about the shippy developments in HBP, theories were made and then crushed, ships were constructed and then blown apart. However, two things to remember:

1)In the world of HP, since when has romance been the be-all-end-all of the stories. Love is important, but love is not restricted to romance (as we happy R/Hr have constantly pointed out)

2)In the world in general, there are things much more important than HP and spending time creating inane theories to explain why your pairing didn't happen is well, crossing the line from being a fan to having a fetish (or so says the great Josh Lyman).

Of course I should note, by way of personal disclosure) that all of this is coming from the mouth of a 22 year old currently unemployed recent college graduate who has substituted her current lack of a life by visitng FA far too much than is good for her.

Anyway all of that said I shall now move on to my rant regarding the "Love Potion Theory" and it's newest incarnation.

http://www.dracoandginny.com/viewstory.php?sid=3300

So the latest incarnation of this theory, begun by Anise and now refined by Creamtea, premotes the notion that it was none other than- wait for it- Hermione (gasp!) who gave Harry a love potion that would make him fall in love with Ginny. If I'm reading it correctly it appears that whilst at the Burrow, Hermione gave Harry a dose of Love potion to ensure that he falls in love with Ginny, because she knows just how much Ginny likes Harry.

By the way if any of this is starting to sound like a game of Clue to you, your not the only one. It was Ron in the Gryffindor Tower! Wait no- it was Snape in the potins dungeon! Or could it be Draco in the Great Hall!

This latest theory is just too ridiculous to debunk- Hermione giving Harry a love potion for Ginny? Hermione?!!! The by the book girl, who was affronted that Harry faked giving Ron some Felix Felices? I am praying in my deepest of hearts for book 7 as soon as possible, if only to stop the insanity of the asinine!

My head hurts from smaking it so many times on the table.

Ah well- I've got to get back to looking for employment.

Tah!

I'm not in the Mood for this!!!!!

reclining
Why oh why did I go onto the ARGH thread? Please someone tell me? I must be subconsiously maschocistic. But then again this time it made me laugh out loud to read Anise's comment

http://www.fictionalley.org/fictionalleypark/forums/showthread.php?s=30e2daebabd86a0b49d028dc1d121141&postid=1394010#post1394010

I mean how much more desperate can you be than to come up with some conspiracy theory like this. Yes JKR specifically asked Emerson and Mellissa because she knew they were big R/Hr and H/G shippers that they wouldn't ask about love potions or the veracity or stregnth of either relationship- Riiiggghhht. It's almost enough to make me really pity anti-OBHWF shippers. They are so "deluded" into thinking that their particular pet ship will happen they have come up with such bogus ideas and theories! At the same time it pisses me off because they feel the need to insult, twist, mangle characters in the very books they claim to be fans of.

The more I see the more I am seriously considering taking a break from the craziness of fandom. It's too much for me to see people raking my favorite ships over the coals, but to insult the author as they have been- it's almost too much. But never fear, I'll stick with it. If only to support my fellow R/Hr and H/G shippers

Urbanmythos on FA

reclining
I'm getting supremely pissed off by this poster Urbanmythos who keeps flaming H/G on our thread. Who the &%$# do they think they are? And, oddly enough, no mods are removing their posts- I wonder why *sarcasm*. Have to say, I agree with Redmonster, the mods on FA are completely biased agains H/G. Tey penalize us more and never go after those who flame or harrass us. I'll be surprised if they remove this person's posts.

Stay tuned for more- I'll be checking to see tommorw if Urbanmythos has been delt with.

Well I just got a new live journal image *points to loverly image of Josh Lyman (aka Bradley Whitford)*. I have to say "The West Wing" is right up there with my love of Harry Potter possibly because both of them have the two of cutest bickering/bantering couples: Josh Lyman/Donna Moss and Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger. I have to say they really remind me of each other. Ron is very Josh like: oblivious, a tad egotistical... and Donna is very Hermione like: capable, nagging. I love the way both couples interact. I am in very big politico, so my love of The West Wing is no surprise to the people who know me.

Well any way, the point of my post- the next chapter of my little fic:
***********************************************************************************************************
Chapter Three

“Thank you.” James said quietly. No matter how old he was he still felt like a child around the wise older man.

“Come let’s go up to my office” Dumbledore placed an arm around James and steered him towards the staircase. Following the headmaster he saw the portraits snoozing around him, though he could see some peering out when they thought no one was looking. Eventually they arrived at the entrance to Dumbledore’s office. James remembered the many times he, Sirius, Remus, and Peter had been brought there for one thing or another.

As they walked into Dumbledore’s office, the portraits covering the walls feigned sleep in order to listen unsuspected. As Dumbledore seated himself behind his desk, James slid into one of the squishy chairs opposite, hoping that Harry would remain asleep. Dumbledore looked kindly at him over his half-moon spectacles

“James, I need you to tell me exactly what happened tonight.”

Trying to draw some upon some strength that would allow him to recount the evening’s events, James’s kept his face down concentrating on Harry’s sleeping form.

“I don’t remember much. He put me in an Immobulis and all I could do was just listen as he said the killing curse. He said it twice. I assumed the first time he hit Lilly and then went for Harry. But I guess since Harry’s still alive he must not have.”

“James, may I see Harry.”

James looked up at his old headmaster and carefully handed the sleeping bundle to him. Carefully holding Harry in his arms Dumbledore examined him through the top of his glasses.

“Ah, yes.”

Handing Harry back to his father Dumbledore folded his hands on the table and looked back at James.

“James, did you by chance notice the scar on Harry’s forehead.”

Brushing back the fringe from his son’s face, James noticed, for the first time, a strange lighting shaped scar.

“Merlin’s beard, how did he get that.” James traced the scar with his finger.

“Unless I am mistaken, your son is now the only known survivor of the Avanda Kedavra curse.”

“But, how? There’s no protection against it. How could he…” James’s voiced trailed off as he contemplated his baby son.

“Lilly.”

James head shot up.

“Lilly? How could she have kept the spell from affecting Harry?”

“By sacrificing her life for Harry she endowed him with a magic older than any other- love. As a result, when Voldemort went to kill Harry, the spell backfired on him.”

“You mean he’s gone. Voldemort’s dead?”

“I’m afraid not. Lord Voldemort has managed to create protection that in any event there would still be a piece of him that would survive. However, at this point he is too weak to be effective. Eventually, he will find a way to regain his strength but for now, he is no longer force. However, his supporters will still be at-large, which is why I think you should consider sending Harry to live with his aunt and uncle.”

“What? You mean Lilly’s sister? Absolutely not. He’ll be miserable.”

“James the old magic that saved Harry tonight will keep him safe there.”

“No!” James shouted disturbing Harry, who awoke with a shrill cry. “Look, I already lost Lilly tonight. I’m not losing Harry! You said that Voldemort no longer has any power. I’ll take my chances with his Death-Eaters.”

“Alright, James. I understand. We will make arrangements for your safety. Until we can find you both a safe place to live, you will stay here at Hogwarts in faculty housing.”

James was too tired to say much else. He cradled the screaming Harry till his cries became muffled sobs. As he followed Dumbledore down the passage he tried to concentrate on anything to keep his mind off of Lilly, willing himself to ignore the pit in his stomach. He would have to find a way. It would be easier to simply give Harry to Lilly’s sister. But James knew he couldn’t give in to the feeling. His son needed him

John Stewart
I'm having a very blah day. I was up too late last night watching "The Godfather", and as a result I'm being a bum right now- gah- the parental unit is going to kill me! Well must get some work done, so that I have something to say for myself when the mother person comes home.

Some day soon I will hear about my internship! Keep all of your fingers crossed for me, so maybe I'll be heading down to D.C. soon.
